The Freelancers Union announced Monday, June 5, they will be offering a wide range of health care plans for independent workers in 30 states through a new partnership with
United Healthcare's Golden Rule Insurance Company and its affiliated companies.
The union, which started in New York City 11 years ago, had been offering health care insurance to 15,000 New Yorkers. However, the 50,000-member group did not offer plans for citizens outside of New York.
The new plan will offer a variety health plans, including lower-cost high deductible and health savings accounts in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
The plan will also provide Freelancers Union members with access to United Healthcare's extensive national network of 535,000 physicians and care professionals and more than 4,700 hospitals nationwide. Membership to the union is free.
